Lower Mustang is a popular trekking destination in Mustang Region of Nepal which is purely an isolated area untouched by many trekkers allowing you to explore amazing and lifetime memorable experience throughout your life. This trek is especially targeted to visit the kingdom of Tibetan Buddhist in short time, not requiring such expensive trekking permit. The trail leading to Lower Mustang follows completely unfrequented path with untouched and unexploited nature into the virgin territory. You will be passing through the deepest gorge (Kaligandaki Gorge) to the dry land with stunning views of beautiful mountains like Annapurna Panorama, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Machhapuchhre, Himchuli and many more, spiritual villages, various biological diversities and holy Muktinath. This area has the Tibetan plateau’s landscape and hence makes your journey a bit challenging and thrilling along with adventures in wild, dry and barren land. You can also encounter unique cultures, traditions and experience warm hospitality of local ethnic group people over there.
The starting and ending point of trekking to Lower Mustang is Jomsom, where you can reach with a comfortable flight from Pokhara valley and just before that, a scenic drive or flight to Pokhara Valley from Kathmandu Valley. From Jomsom, trek to Kagbeni, holy Muktinath (3,710 meters) and visit Red Gompa and finally Jomsom again via Lupra Valley (2,790 meters). A flight from Jomsom will take you back to Pokhara valley and further another flight taking you Kathmandu valley back. The major highlights of Lower Mustang trek includes trekking through the ancient trade route to Tibet in completely unfrequented trail, experiencing desert landscape of Mustang region which you will surly find unique and different, exploring Gurung and Tibetan Buddhist villages and keeping deep insight into their enriched cultural and traditional values and of course beautiful views of high peaks as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains.
However, to achieve more adventure and happiness from Lower Mustang trek, you should trek in favorable season in this area. The best time to trek in this trail is autumn (September, October and November) and spring (March, April and May).
